A Simple Guide To Understand Exhaust Leak And How To Repair It

You can drive a quiet car only if its exhaust system functions properly and the exhaust fumes stay away from the cabin. This system helps the engine to run properly with excellent functionality. Moreover, it also helps to reduce carbon emissions and offer optimum fuel efficiency as well. It is a potential danger to drive a car with a malfunctioning exhaust system as it leads to the release of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere.

An exhaust leak in the vehicles leads to horrible problems. On the lighter side, the exhaust leak creates weird noises, whereas, on the stronger side, it severely affects performance. So, it is essential to find and fix the exhaust leaks in vehicles at the earliest to safeguard you and your vehicle.

Steps to find an exhaust leak in the car

In general, vehicles emit carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Generally, the exhaust gases get evacuated through the exhaust pipe of the vehicle. The exhaust repair  process requires a thorough examination of the exhaust interconnected pipes. However, in some cases, it can be a simple problem like corrosion which can easily be repaired. Therefore, it requires experienced and trained professionals to identify what is to be repaired.

Garage or Service Centre is known as a renowned garage among the people of Uk and nearby areas for providing efficient services at an affordable rate.

Below mentioned are the symptoms that indicate an exhaust malfunctioning in your car.

Bad odour

When you are driving a car, and if you note that the discharge pipe produces an unpleasant odour, it strongly indicates that the exhaust pipe is out of order. Another reason for this bad smell can be an exhaust leak as well.

Engine light glow check

When the exhaust pipe is not standard, the engine check light will start glowing. If the car owners come to know this issue during the inspection process, they should immediately go for a quick repair, in order to ensure their utmost safety.

Noise emission

Generally, when the exhaust pipe is leaking, it will start to produce excessive noises. If the condition is detected in your car, you must take your car to an auto-garage for inspection.

Steps to fix exhaust leaks in cars

1. Firstly, scrub the area around the leak with a steel brush. Clean any rust, dirt or mud thoroughly and with grit sandpaper smoothen the clean surface. Then, rinse the scrubbed area with the chemical acetone that will support the tape in forming a stronger bond with the metal surface.

2. If there is a small exhaust leak, handle it with epoxy or tape. Follow the application instruction given in the tape and use it at least two layers of the tape to form a tighter, stronger wrap. For larger exhaust leaks, i.e. if the hole falls around three inches, use aluminium patches for fixing. If the hole goes beyond the size, it will require replacement of the entire part. Usage of hose clamps helps in holding the patch safely around the exhaust pipe.

If the leak is bigger, or if you need perfect services regarding exhaust repair, take the car for service at Garage or Service Centre.
